About Us Home

Located in northern Hamden, West Woods is a K-6 elementary school with a culturally diverse population of about 380 students. Student instruction at West Woods emphasizes student achievement and academic growth through differentiated instruction, lesson modeling and flexible grouping.
Our building is an open space school design that houses four large learning centers with multiple grade levels classrooms within. In keeping with our “woods” theme, each of our classroom learning centers is named after a different type of tree. In addition to learning spaces dedicated to specialized areas, West Woods has three full-day kindergarten classes in traditional, self-contained classrooms.
We believe being a good citizen is a part of being a good student and we teach our students to view each other as special and unique people who take responsibility for their actions, exhibit positive behavior, practice self control and are considerate of others.
